Free Service Offered in 12 MD Counties

Bad checks affect everyone in terms of higher consumer costs passed on to offset losses and tax increases resulting from demands on law enforcement and prosecution. The Maryland State’s Attorney’s Bad Check Restitution Program has been organized to help businesses recoup their losses.

The program is FREE to businesses and is presently operating in 12 Maryland counties with plans to expand. Bookmark this page and check back for updates if your county is not yet participating.

The primary goal of the State’s Attorney’s Bad Check Restitution Program is to seek full restitution for the business victim, without adding to the financial burden of the criminal justice system. The program has not only received praise from its participants, but at least one retail chain requested the program be expanded to the other areas it serves in MD.
